THEN COME SHOW YOUR SUPPORT AT TOWN HALL IN OCTOBER (Date to be announced)

• The Preservation of the Pattagansett Lake Community Forest Property (commonly known as the Hathaway Property) has been identified in both the 2009 and 2019 Town of East Lyme Plans of Conservation and Development as the number 1 rated priority parcel for Open Space acquisition.

• The State of Connecticut DEEP recently awarded us a $400,000 grant, the maximum award available, for the acquisition of this property.

• The land would be protected permanently by a Conservation Easement held by the Connecticut DEEP and provide for public access.

• Property Attributes; 120 +/- acres, 3000’ +/- of waterfront.

• Hiking trails, public access to waterfront, potential future Town water well site(s).

• The Town has approximately $300,000 available in its Open Space account to spend on land protection; no new budget appropriation is needed. Additional grant funding is available to the Town from the American Rescue Act and the Clean Water State Revolving Fund.

• APPROVAL AT AN OCTOBER TOWN MEETING WILL ALLOW FOR THE IMMEDIATE AND PERMANENT PROTECTION OF THIS VALUABLE PROPERTY.

• If the DEEP grant is not matched, and matched soon, DEEP could allocate the awarded funds to another project or projects elsewhere in the State. We need the Town to act to save this property.
